WCOKC in the Community

Our members are thankful for the dogs with which we share our lives, and we take pride in joining in to help support and promote dogs nationally, regionally and locally for many causes.
In 2016, the West Central Oklahoma Kennel Club was pleased to present the Weatherford, Oklahoma Police Department with a donation that covered the cost to outfit two canine police officers and their handlers with rifle grade protective vests. We support the Blue Line, both two and four legged officers!

The journey of life is sweeter when traveled with a dog.
"We give dogs time we can spare, space we can spare and love we can spare. And in return, dogs give us their all. It's the best deal man has ever made."
--M. Acklam
In the summer of 2014, as the result of a joint effort to help feed and care for animals following a natural disaster, the West Central Oklahoma Kennel Club teamed up with the Bulldog Club of America, the Canadian Valley Kennel Club, Sooner State Kennel Club, the Old English Sheepdog Club of and Town and Country Kennel Club to help bring relief. The group effort by these dog clubs helped provide many with necessary resources including crates, generators, power washers, fans, shop vacs, bowls as well as other items.
Promoting and educating the public about something we hold near and dear to our hearts is an continuing goal we, as a club, strive to keep. The West Central Oklahoma Kennel Club recently presented a $15,000 donation to the AKC Museum of the Dog, located in New York City. The museum holds one of the largest collections of art and artifacts relating to dogs. They also offer periodic exhibitions detailing the history and facts of various areas where dogs have played such an integral part of our lives, including war dogs, presidential dogs, dogs of Hollywood, and more.
At our fall 2017 All Breed, Rally and Obedience Shows, West Central Oklahoma Kennel Club offered a 50/50 Raffle to benefit the Southern Handlers Charity League. At that time, the League was putting together resources to help fellow handlers and exhibitors who had recently been impacted by Hurricane Harvey. Our Secretary, Dr. Carmen Herbel Spears, and our President, Bob Newcomb, are shown in the first image, separating their tickets for the drawing. WCOKC did not keep any of the 50/50 proceeds because President Newcomb was drawn as the winner, and he donated his 50% back to the Southern Handlers Charity League. We were honored to be able to give back to the handlers in their time of need.
